Layered Jello Recipes - Handy Tips and Ideas

Jello is a versatile product and there are so many different desserts you can make with it. Serving jello alone or with some chopped fruit in it makes a satisfactory dessert, but layering jello to make something eye-catching and impressive is also a great idea, especially if you are catering for a buffet or dinner party.

Making a layered jello dessert is all about allowing one layer of jello to set before adding the next. This obviously means you will need to be at home for a while. If you are making a five layer jello dessert, you will need to pour a new layer on every thirty or forty minutes, so you will have to be around to do this.

Simple Three Layer Fruity Jello

If you are new to making jello recipes, what about starting off with a basic three layer dessert? You will need some fresh fruit, three different colors of jello and a clear jello mold or glass serving dishes. The reason for using a large clear mold or glass dishes is so that the jello layers are visible. Do not use fresh papaya, pineapple, ginger root, or kiwi, because these contain an enzyme, which stops the jello from setting.

First of all, dissolve one of the packages of jello in a cup of boiling water, then stir in a cup of cold water. Pour this mixture into the mold or divide it between eight to fifteen individual glasses, depending on their size.

Add any fruit you like to this mixture before pouring it. Strawberries, raspberries, banana, canned pineapple, pear, mandarin segments, and canned fruit salad are all good choices. If you are using canned fruit, drain it well unless it is in fruit juice rather than syrup, in which case you can use that instead of some of the cold water to make up the jello if you want a fruitier flavor.

Leave the jello in the refrigerator until it is set. Make up another of the packages of jello in the same way, adding a different kind of fruit to it and pour this jello over the set jello. Repeat once more, until you have a three layer fruit jello dessert. This dessert is so easy to make, yet it looks really impressive.

Other Ingredients to Combine with Jello

Fruit is a healthy ingredient to add to jello when making layered desserts, but you can also add nuts, marshmallows, chocolate chips, colorful sprinkles, or anything else you fancy.

You can top a layered jello recipe with Dream Whip or whipped cream, or even serve it with your favorite kind of ice cream. One of the best things about making layered jello desserts is that you can be so creative with them and decorate them however you like.

You might like to make a simple cheesecake recipe and use a layer or jello as the topping. If you are feeling creative, you can even make a double jello topping by allowing the first layer to set and then using a contrasting color of jello to make the second layer.

The sky is the limit when working with jello and this delicious ingredient can be used to make literally hundreds of different recipes. If you want to make healthy jello recipes, choose sugar-free jello. It tastes just as good as original jello but is very low in both fat and calories.
